TOSS! PSVR 2 Review – Monkeying around VR environments

When it comes to showcasing the capabilities of VR, one area where it truly excels is in simulating climbing. A prime example of this is seen in The Climb, and the PSVR2’s very own Horizon: Call of the Mountain offers another fantastic experience for those who enjoy scaling virtual heights. TOSS! is yet another climbing game in the VR world, offering not only climbing challenges but also plenty of jumps to put your skills to the test.

In TOSS!, you assume the perspective of a first-person monkey, engaging in a combination of jumping and climbing. The game begins with straightforward tasks, but as you progress, the difficulty steadily escalates. You’ll find yourself making daring leaps of faith, and at times, luck might just be on your side as you navigate through the increasingly demanding levels.

In TOSS!, you’ll encounter a variety of interactive elements in each level, such as basic platforms, ropes, monkey bars, trees, scalable walls, trampolines, and more. Impressively, the game manages to keep the experience relatively fresh as you progress through its 75+ levels, which are spread across nine distinct areas.

“While the game can be played either seated or standing, I strongly recommend playing it in a standing position, as it truly demands space for you to extend your arms freely.”

TOSS! also incorporates a trio of optional challenges in each level, effectively prolonging the game’s replay value. These challenges entail completing a stage within a specified time limit, adhering to a set number of grabs, and tracking down all the banana pieces, some of which pose quite a challenge to reach. These bonus objectives will prove to be motivation for some to return to levels and improve upon their jumping and climbing abilities.

TOSS! utilizes the PSVR2’s motion controllers to deliver an enjoyable experience of propelling yourself through the expansive, cloud-filled environments. While the game can be played either seated or standing, I strongly recommend playing it in a standing position, as it truly demands space for you to extend your arms freely. The motion controls generally prove reliable; however, there were occasional instances where my energetic movements didn’t translate into as significant a jump as expected. Additionally, I found myself inexplicably jumping backward on occasion, a behavior I couldn’t quite discern.

TOSS! boasts a vibrant and visually appealing aesthetic that contributes to its delightful cartoonish charm. However, it’s essential to manage your expectations regarding the diversity of environments. In contrast to titles like Horizon: Call of the Mountain, TOSS! does feature more repetition in its settings. Nevertheless, this design choice complements the game’s structure, which relies on shorter, more compact levels.

TOSS! PSVR 2 Review Summary:

In summary, TOSS! stands out as a colourful and charming addition to the VR gaming world. Even if not perfect, its use of the PSVR2’s motion controllers adds an engaging level of interactivity as you navigate through its lofty, cloud-filled landscapes. While the game’s visuals contribute to its overall appeal, it’s worth noting that its environments do exhibit some repetition compared to other titles. Overall though, TOSS! is a delightful and enjoyable experience for those looking to immerse themselves in a light-hearted and challenging platforming adventure.
