Warner Bros., the new parent of Mortal Kombat, has announced a new addition to the series. It’s developed by NeverRealm Studios (the usual team, but now under a new name), and has all the gory and often humourous fatalities (with new and nasty camera close-ups) that fans have come to expect from the series. But much like Street Fighter IV, Mortal Kombat is a return to roots for the franchise and is powered by a new 2D engine. This will be welcomed by many.
Modes announced so far are the usual one-on-one encounters and also a four player tag team mode, which is sure to be chaos. As has become traditional for the series, the story mode will actually offer a deep story.
I’ll look forward to seeing how Mortal Kombat fares in comparison to Street Fighter IV, when the game is released for the 360 and PS3 next year.
