Sony have made available their first 3D games for the PS3. They include Wipeout HD, Super Stardust HD and Pain. A MotorStorm: Pacific Rift demo is also now 3D ready. The downside is that you’ll need a 3D enabled TV, which are priced at silly prices at this moment in time. Also, haven’t we all just upgraded to HD sets in recent years?

The games are available now, priced at £23.99 from the PlayStation Store or, if you buy one of those stylish new Sony Bravia 3D TV sets, the games will come free. If you already own any of the games, free patches can be downloaded to make them suddenly start popping out of the screen – just as long as you have all the kit of course.

Andrew House, President of SCEE had this to say: “PlayStation has always been about outstanding entertainment. The stereoscopic 3D Collection showcases the depth of technology behind PS3 and gives us a feel for the potential for future releases,”

He continued: “Stereoscopic 3D technology coupled with the likes of PlayStation Move motion controller allows us to create an ever more compelling, realistic and immersive experience. Add to that our online capabilities, community interaction features, our film and music services and you’ve got a very exciting proposition for the future of home entertainment.”

He obviously didn’t say the following: “Is 3D really the future of gaming? I’m sceptical, but only time will tell.” No, that was actually me who said that.
