It was already common knowledge that True Crime: Hong Kong had been canned by Activision and later picked up by Square Enix, but now the open-world crime game has been given a new name.

When Square Enix saved the game from extinction, they only got hold of the rights to publish the game, with the True Crime name staying with Activision, thus the reason that the game had to be renamed. True Crime: Hong Kong has now become Sleeping Dogs.

Sleeping Dogs, under development at United Front Games, has you taking control of undercover policeman Wei Shen as you attempt to take down the Hong Kong Triads. The game is a blend of driving, shooting and brutal melee combat.

Square Enix obviously saw potential in the game to be a big hit. We can only see what happens when Sleeping Dogs is finally released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in the second half of the year.
