Nintendo has unveiled The Nintendo Figurine Platform for Wii U and 3DS. For Wii U it will launch later this year, whilst the 3DS will get the platform early next year.

It’s a concept very much along the lines of Skylanders and Disney Infinity, allowing you to use collectible toys of Nintendo characters and bring them into various games. The figurines are able to store data, allowing you to level up the character and save customization data to them.

Nintendo hasn’t yet announced compatible games, but It would hardly be a surprise to see Super Smash Bros on Wii U make use of it in some way. We won’t have long to find out as the first figurines and games will be announced at E3 next month.
