News – The Church in the Darkness emerges into the light
Remember The Suffering? Well, the lead designer of that game, Richard Rouse III, is currently working on The Church in the Darkness, which is a top-down stealth game with a bit of a difference.
Taking place in South America in the 1970s, the game tells the tale of a cult (The Collective Justice Mission) with radical beliefs who feel that they are forced to relocate to the jungles of South America due to being persecuted for said beliefs. Here, they build Freedom Town, but nothing is ever as it seems. Leading the cult is Rebecca and Isaac Walker, who are voiced by real life married couple, Ellen McLain (known for voicing Portals GLaDOS) and John Patrick Lowrie (the sniper from Team Fortress 2). You take control of an ex-policeman named Vic who is searching for his nephew, and you’ll find out more about the cult leaders.
Where the game is different is in the way that the narrative can alter on each new play through. How this apparently works is through investigation, observation, and action.
The Church in the Darkness is set to be released early next year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
