SEGA has announced that Super Monkey Ball is coming to Nintendo’s new portable game console, the 3DS, next year.

As usual, it has you taking charge of a monkey in a ball (AiAi, GogGon, MeeMee and Baby are all selectable) and attempting to navigate (either by using the 3DS motion senser or the slide pad) the often devious level design, whilst collecting bananas along the way and reaching the goal in the fastest time possible.

The new game has three new modes consisting of Monkey Fight, Monkey Race and puzzle levels. There is also wireless play for up to four players, of which according to SEGA offers the best 3D multiplayer in a handheld game.

Toshiro Nagoshi, creator of the franchise feels, that his game is the perfect fit for the 3DS “The moment I saw the features of the Nintendo 3DS, I could not help thinking how perfectly Super Monkey Ball would work on this new hardware. I could quickly picture myself holding the Nintendo 3DS using the motion sensor and playing Super Monkey Ball”

“The simple gameplay allows players to enjoy the 3D graphics to the fullest and now that we have brought this vision to life…bingo! We have our all-time favorite Super Monkey Ball experience with the new excitement of the Nintendo 3DS!”
