Sony has announced Starhawk, the follow-up to Warhawk, although this time around the game will only be released as a boxed product.

Starhawk, developed by LightBox Interactive, will also feature a single player campaign, in which you take control of Emmett Graves whom is going up against the Outcast, a faction of monsters that used to be human. There’s a Wild West in space feel to it all and the lead character is seeking his brother, the leader of the Outcast, which all sounds rather awkward for those involved. Starhawk also features multiplayer options, of course.

The game itself includes RTS elements, in which killing AI enemies and human opponents will accumulate resources. These resources can be used to bring down walls, gates, turrets and landing pads for vehicles. You may very well feel like the God of the universe while playing this one.

There’s multiplayer support for up to 32 players and four player cooperative play, which can be played locally or online.

Starhawk is due for exclusive release on the PS3 in 2012.
