True Crime: Hong Kong was canned by publisher Activision this year. But Square Enix have now announced that they have picked the game up, saving it from the scrapheap.

However, the game will no longer be under the title of True Crime: Hong Kong, as Square have only purchased the rights to the game, and not the name.

The currently untitled game is still being developed by United front, and is being managed by Square Enix London Studios. Speaking to Gamasutra, Square Enix London Studios general manager Lee Singleton had this to say:

“When we first saw and got our hands on the game we fell in love with it.”

“It’s one of those games where you don’t want to put the controller down; it’s what we call ‘sticky’,” he continued.

This will come as welcome news to those disappointed by Activision’s decision to cancel it.

No word on when the game can be expected as of yet.
