NEWS – SEGA Games to be turned into Films & TV Shows
A string of popular SEGA franchises look set to be released for film and TV adaptations after Stories International partnered with Circle of Confusion. Stories International is a company part owned by SEGA and Circle of Confusion is well known for their Fear the Walking Dead series. Matt Platt Productions have also climbed on board to bring Shinobi to the big screen.
Other SEGA franchises that are looking to be adapted include Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Virtua Fighter, Crazy Taxi and Streets of Rage.
Of course many fans of these franchises would much prefer another game in their favourite series as opposed to a film or TV series – I would certainly love to see a new Streets of Rage game. And the relevancy of some of these titles is questionable; most of the games listed haven’t had proper sequels in a number of years, with only Virtua Figher having regular releases, albeit on mobile. But with nostalgia being very much a huge selling point and with other childhood classics being given a new lease of life thanks to the advances in CGI and computer technology, and with their subsequent success, then it stands to reason that others would eventually follow suit.
Still, let’s hope these production companies handle these franchises with a bit more respect than Uwe Boll.
