Sony has made the long rumoured PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale official.

The game is very much in the vein of Nintendo’s excellent Super Smash Bros. series, which is to say it’s an OTT fighting game, but with PlayStation characters instead of a Nintendo cast. It stars a host of characters from throughout the history of PlayStation, many of which are currently unannounced, though confirmed are Parappa the Rapper, Sly Cooper, Kratos, Sweet Tooth, Fat Princess and Corneal Radec from Killzone 2. The likes of Nathan Drake, Cole Mcgrath, Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank are most likely to make appearances too.

Characters all have their signature abilities, for example Kratos fights with weapons like the Blade’s of Chaos, whilst Sly Cooper can turn invisible. They all have super abilities too, with multiple levels, with level 3 dealing the most damage.

Much like Super Smash Bros. the game moves at a rapid pace and has an emphasis on multiplayer, supporting up to four players. It also is steeped in fan service, if you somehow hadn’t already guessed.

The stages where the fights take place, consist of areas inspired by the likes of God of War, Everybody’s Golf and LittleBigPlanet, though in an interesting twist, stages will transform whilst fighting, even in some cases, bringing in further factors into the gameplay. For instance the LittleBigPlanet Stage, eventually sees Buzz make an appearance, along with a mini quiz, where if you don’t answer the questions correctly, you’ll be damaged.

No word on a release date as yet.
