Level-5 are trying to bring the Professor Layton games to Switch, though have run into a bit of a design problem, the problem being how the game would play while the Switch is docked.

Wesley Yin-Poole, of Eurogamer, interviewed Level-5’s CEO Akihiro Hino, and he had this to say: “I played Zelda. I love the Switch. I think it’s amazing hardware. The problem is, the Layton series does a lot with the touchscreen and pointing. So, the problem with the Switch is, if you play on handheld you can do it, but if you put it on the dock… we’re trying to figure out how that would play into it.”

The Professor Layton games make use of the Nintendo 3DS’s touchscreen, though personally I believe (and it seems other people agree) the route they should take is to simply turn the game into a point and click adventure – problem solved. The Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con’s would act perfectly as a PC-style mouse, moving around a cursor on-screen to point and click on parts of the screen. The Professor Layton games would be well suited to this genre, considering there is a lot of screen-tapping on the Nintendo 3DS.

“I will point you in the right direction!”
