Ubisoft has confirmed that I Am Alive, previously planned as a full boxed release and announced back in 2008, will be released on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN.

You take control of an everyman, who is attempting to find his wife and daughter in a post-apocalyptic world. His hometown has been destroyed, and some sort of large scale disaster (or “the event”, as Ubisoft ominously puts it) has obviously taken place.

Apparently you will have to make thought-provoking choices, and will be challenged by both enemies and the environment. Ubisoft have also said that you have to carefully manage your stamina and your resources, while you’ll be searching through massive buildings for supplies. Finally, the combat system is supposed to be something rather unique, in which intimidation will be a factor, particularly for the cowards, who will run away when you point a gun at them.

“We know people have been waiting for this game to arrive, and we believe it’s going to be worth the wait,” revealed Adam Novickas, Director of Marketing at Ubisoft.

“I Am Alive presents a unique take on the post-apocalyptic, survival genre by creating more complex and emotional situations for the player. Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network are the perfect platforms to leverage the mature and challenging experiences of the game.”

I Am Alive is due for release this winter, and definitely seems to be one to keep an eye on. For now, why don’t you take a look at the first gameplay trailer below?
