News – Hitman to be released fully episodically
The new Hitman game will now be released as a fully episodic game on PS4, Xbox One and PC, beginning with a prologue mission as well as a Paris location from March 11th.
Following the initial locations, a Italy based level will be released in April and a Morocco one in May. Later this year, there will also be Thailand, US and Japan levels released. Square Enix are also promising weekly live events and planned content in between updates.
Pre-orders of the game were pulled from the PlayStation Store for good reason recently, as the newly announced fully episodic structure obviously means a different pricing structure. Square have revealed a new Intro Pack to start you off, of which will feature the Prologue and Paris levels. The pack will cost £11.99. Future level releases will cost £7.99 each. As is typical, there’s also an option to pay for everything in advance, which will cost you £44.99. You’re also able to purchase the Intro Pack, and if you want to pay for the rest of the content in advance, you’ll be able to purchase the Upgrade Pack for £36.99. Finally, if you want a physical version of the complete game, you’ll have to wait until the end of the year.
“We decided to take the full leap and publish HITMAN as a truly episodic game experience,” revealed Hannes Seifert, Head of Studio at Io-Interactive. “Part of that decision is for that little bit of extra time to ensure every location we release is at the quality level fitting for a HITMAN game. But the main driving reason is that this will allow us to create a living game that will expand and evolve over time and establish a foundation for the future – this is the first game in a storyline which will continue and expand with future Hitman games.”
As for the PS4 players out there, they’ll have access to The Sarajevo Six, which is six exclusive bonus contracts. These bonus contracts will be released with each location, of which sees Agent 47 travel the world to hunt six former members of a paramilitary unit called CICADA.
In further news, the closed beta of Hitman starts on February 12th on PlayStation 4, with the PC beta opening up at the later date of February 19th. To get access to the beta, you’ll have to pre-order the game. As for Xbox One owners, there sadly isn’t going to be a beta for the game.
