Nintendo are playing catch up to their rivals in a number of ways with the Wii U, and now, at Nintendo’s Tokyo earnings briefing on Friday, they have revealed plans for paid downloadable content for the the new console and the 3DS.

A paid item transaction system is being readied for both the systems, of which will be ready by the end of the year for 3DS developers. This means that we’ll eventually be able to expand the games we buy on the two systems, through purchasing additional content

Free-to-play games, which make money through micro transactions, are something that Nintendo seem to be very much against. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata feels that this type of system would damage the premium value of Nintendo’s content, apparently.
