Dear Esther, the game that helped usher in the so called Walking Simulator, is finally getting a console release.

As the game was released back in 2012 on PC, the console release has certainly taken its time. Developer The Chinese Room is collaborating with publisher Curve Digital and are aiming for a summer release on PS4 and Xbox One.

Dear Esther was a bold experience that managed to pay off for many, while some just weren’t able to see past a game that had little interactivity and was powered by its narrative. The game sees you exploring an island in the Scottish Hebrides to investigate the events that led to the death of your wife.

The console version will boast subtle tweaks as well as director’s commentary.

The Chinese Room later released Everbody’s Gone to the Rapture, which had similar ideas to those found in Dear Esther.
