News – BioShock Infinite announced, but no Rapture

A third entry in the BioShock series has been announced, but shockingly it doesn’t take place in the underwater city of Rapture featured in the other two games.

The new game is BioShock Infinite, which is in the works at Irrational Games, the developer of the original game, and is a prequel that is set in 1912. It focuses on Columbia: another unconventional and decaying city, but one that’s not underwater, instead it’s a city that is floating in the sky – it’s shaping up to be another imaginative and immersive setting.

The lead protagonist is Booker Dewitt, who is hired by a mysterious employer to find and rescue Elizabeth, of which he succeeds in doing. You must then work together with her to escape the city, but thankfully being solely an AI companion means that the BioShock series hasn’t become focused on online co-op, at least not yet anyway.

As always, you can use a combination of guns and unnatural powers to take down your enemies. Telekinesis is back, and you’re even able to use to take enemies guns and fire them whilst they’re still in the air. There’s sure to be plenty more abilities to play with.

The worst thing about the announcement was the depressing 2012 release date, that’s just too far away!
