Activision has announced a new aerial combat game and, for once, you don’t take charge of a fighter jet. Apache: Air Assault for PS3 and Xbox 360 is a Helicopter simulation, developed by Gaijin Entertainment, the Russian developer behind the well received IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey.

The game features a mission mode, which contains 16 missions and, just like IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, there are two control schemes, which really changes how the game handles: arcade controls for more immediate fun and a realistic mode to make you work more for those lovely explosions.

Unsurprisingly the game also has multiplayer options.  There’s Team Deathmatch, Ground Attack, Capture the LZ and Ground Strike modes. More exciting is the local exclusive co-op mode, where one player is the pilot and the other handles co-pilot duties.

Apache: Air Assault is set to arrive this autumn.
